Aurora, bred by our friend Heather Brennan
at Nuthatch
German Shorthaired Pointers in Ontario, CN, descends
from a tightly line bred maternal lineage that included
one of my all-time favorite GSPs, Sage (Ch. Malhaven's
Sage Grouse), who is the great-great-grandmother of this
litter of puppies and has been behind some of the most
beautiful and prestigious dogs in the history of the
breed. Sage was a beautiful, moderate, typie, no nonsense
and honest bitch that in combination with the right stud
dogs produced some of the best the breed has ever known.
Sage influenced lines including Robincrest, Ehrsenen,
Nuthatch, and many others known for soundness, type and
beauty in both the show ring and field. And, although
she came along years later, Sage was the granddam of
our very first GSP Champion, Callie (Ch. Lieder's Spirit
of Friendship), and while we were showing her we heard
many times how much like Sage as well as her sire, Spirit
(Ch.
Robincrest Silver Spirit JH) she was. So, in Aurora,
we were able to recapture a piece of pedigree that meant
a great deal to us, but was lost from our program when
we could not breed Callie, and Aurora brought back that
back to us.
With thanks to Sherry Thrall of Hedgehog
Hill Shorthairs, who told us about Aurora's litter
sired by her stunning solid liver dog Jammer (Ch.
HHH Jam on the Brakes) out of Nuthatch's
Truly, Madly, Deeply we took a trek to meet Heather
Brennan at Nuthatch and see the litter. And that's how
we brought Aurora into our home and our lives. It was
her pedigree first and her incredible spirit next that
captivated us and convinced us. Aurora gave us a way
back to the old lines, style and type that we feared
we had lost when Callie was spayed.
Comet's pedigree offered some commonalities and some
differences, but also loaned itself to bringing forward
the older style and type that we fell in love with in
the breed. His sire Webber (Ch. Mariah's Music of the
Night JH) was a compact, beautifully moving dog that
was nothing but clean in all aspects. He was neither
a flashy nor overdone dog, but had the sweetest temperament
and tons of honest style. We had the good fortune of
knowing him well during our early years in the breed
when we spent many, many hours with Mary Lou and Reggie
Tobias at Lieder German Shorthaired Pointers, learning,
laughing, and sharing our passion for the breed. And
Webber was the out of another great pairing. He was one
of the beautiful offspring of Logan (BISS Ch. Windabrae's
Dire Straights JH) and Ayla (Ch. Mariah's Sparkles Like
Diamonds JH), each of whom were highly respected examples
of the breed and who made their mark with wins and acknowledgements
in some of the largest competitions in the
breed. Both moderate dogs, they also both had style and
were examples of nice "packages" of German
Shorthaired Pointers that looked like they were ready
to do their work and find the birds, while being able
to demonstrate the regal and intelligent nature of the
breed.
<-- Comet's dam, Kate, bred by Bob and Beth Ritchie
of Robaron
German Shorthaired Pointers, was probablythe most
perfect German Shorthaired Pointer bitch imaginable.
She was stylish and typie, moderate and correctly angled,
and intense about all things of interest to a german
shorthair. we'd be hard pressed to find a bitch of
more beauty, hunting ability, or pure type, other than
perhaps the lovely Sage already mentioned above. Kate
was not actively shown, but somehow photos of her in
the field found their way into magazines and ads, and
we were blessed by the opportunity to have her incredible
heritage behind our Comet. Kate was also the dam of
our beloved Callie, and having had the misfortune of
her not being able to be used in our program, the blessing
of Comet for that part of his pedigree goes without
saying. Kate's heritage and pedigree was a prestigious
one! She was the daughter of a very well known dog,
Surge, BIS BISS CH. Fieldfine's Back For More JH AOM,
ROM ,
a dog that anyone with an eye would recognize for his
type, movement and soundness. And to make it even sweeter,
Surge was himself descended out of some of the finest
dogs that have existed in the history ofthe breed,
including the famous Am/Can
Ch. Fieldfine's Count Rambard ROMXX.
Comet's pedigree and Aurora's pedigree had some commonalities
that also touched upon the greats of days gone by. Both
go back to some of the best known Riverside dogs, such
as Riverside's Country Legend, and both include Hillhaven
and Snowcreek lines. In fact, if I tried to list all
the related lines and prestigious dogs that have come
out of those lines, it would be too many to list. But,
as a sampling, we've mentioned quite a few of them here.
In bringing together Comet and Aurora through this breeding,
it seemed we could potentially recapture some of the
old style and type that many are reaching for, without
having to go very far to find it. We hope for more of
the wonderful type, conformation, birdiness and temperaments
that came before them and exists within them. How could
we go wrong? Comet is a loveable dream dog, and Aurora
is a beautiful blessing. We think that when you bring
such things together, it can only be good for the offspring,
and ultimately for the breed!
If you can appreciate the type and style of German Shorthaired
Pointer we've described, the lines from which these lovely
puppies come, you might make a great home for one of
these special puppies! If you'd like to add one of these
beauties to your family, please fill out our puppy
application.
We hope to hear from you soon!
